Working Principles of Hot Air Balloons

Hot air balloons rise based on the principle of thermal expansion. Inside the balloon. The air inside the balloon heats up and expands. The expansion pushes the balloon upwards and allows it to rise. The heater at the bottom of the balloon, usually powered by propane gas, heats the air and increases the air temperature inside the balloon. The hot air creates a strong driving force that allows the balloon to rise.

Since the hot air inside the balloon has a lower density than the external environment, the balloon starts to rise and reaches the desired height. The air release valve prevents the balloon from rising too high. The air causing excess pressure is discharged through the vent valve. In this way, the balloon can remain stable at the desired height.

By controlling the heater, the balloon can be made to rise and fall.
